Carnegie Institute Facade Restoration

Dedicated in 1895, the Alden & Harlow designed Carnegie Institute has undergone exterior restorations in the past mostly to clean the decades of steel mill blackening from its sandstone. Starting in 2015, a new phase of façade work commenced to ensure the Institute would continue to age gracefully. elagin architecture developed a scope of work that included gentle cleaning, repointing, crack/spall repair, consolidation, sealing, window frame repair, bronze feature restoration and new hardscaping. The objective was not a restored appearance, but rather a considerately preserved landmark.
